The South West is fortunate to have some of the very best producers in the country, and Devon is no exception. Meat lovers are especially well catered for in this corner of the country and some of the oldest businesses in the county remain the most successful. Hayman’s Butchers is in the coastal town of Sidmouth, where it is a firm favourite with families and chefs alike.
The main butchers shop has been family run since it started trading in 1907 and has received many awards during this time. All of the meats sold are sourced locally so if provenance is important, this is a wonderful producer to support.
Stewart, who runs the business today with his wife Shirley, is proud of the history and still uses his grandmother’s (unchanged) recipe for the award-winning brawn!
Butchers, and more!
The original shop remains very traditional in style, but the business has evolved and developed and is a very modern affair! Savvy changes mean Hayman’s not only meets the needs of the local community that supports it, but has remained a thriving business in an increasingly competitive space.
The Hayman family have successfully spread their business reach to open another branch in nearby Woolbrook and to include a bakery department. The successful expansion means they can provide a range of pasties, pies and cured meats, as well as home-cooked ready meals and the quality of all ingredients is guaranteed.
Open 6 days a week from 7:30am, home deliveries are available. The business truly has moved with the times to embrace the digital world. The website is far more than a location finder or a product list, it is a pretty good resource for its readers. ‘Straight from the freezer’ deals, chef pages, recipes and cooking tips are all available and clear to find.
